Water supply is anticipated to face disruptions starting Sunday evening in various parts of Central, South, and North Delhi due to a decline in the water level of the Yamuna River, as announced by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Saturday. The DJB attributed the issue to Haryana, citing a reduction in the release of water into the river, and mentioned that the water supply in Delhi will be impacted until the situation improves.
According to the DJB statement, the pond level at Wazirabad has decreased to 668 ft, compared to the normal level of 674.5 ft. Additionally, the reduced release of raw water by Haryana in the Yamuna River has led to a curtailment of water production at the Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants. The statement specified that water supply will be affected from the evening of April 25 until the evening of April 26, or until the pond level returns to normal.
A DJB official highlighted that the water level in the river has consistently been low for the past few weeks, and the Board has raised the issue with Haryana in the Supreme Court. While efforts will be made to maintain normal supply during the morning hours, the official acknowledged that the supply would be impacted in the evening.
Areas likely to experience water supply disruptions include Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Tughlakabad, Sangam Vihar, Delhi Gate, Burari, and regions within the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
